Welcome to Blood Bikes Leinster
Blood Bikes is a fully registered “non profit” Irish charity established by local volunteers to essentially offer a free service tailored to the need’s of the hospital’s we service, transporting blood, breast milk and other medical supplies between hospitals and/or other agencies primarily but not exclusively in the Leinster Region. Breast milk transport is imperative for premature babies as they are unable to digest any other food source.
Hospitals rely on private taxis, couriers to transport urgent medical supplies and/or samples between hospitals and other agencies. Blood Bikes carry out this service FREE OF CHARGE to the hospitals ensuring that ambulance’s or Garda vehicles are not taken out of service and are kept were most needed. Blood Bikes is solely dependent on sponsorship or charitable donations blood bikes is run by volunteer riders who give their time freely to deliver the service.
In some situations blood, breast milk or other medical items may need to be delivered quickly to a hospital or other agency. Blood bikes with their distinctive livery and narrow profile can quickly negotiate through busy traffic reaching their destination much faster than a four wheel vehicle could.
Blood bikes was established in April 2013 with a team of dedicated local volunteers and commenced live operations in November 2013. Blood bikes support hospitals and other agencies across Leinster. We are fully supported by Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes (NABB) who have over 60 yr’s experience supplying a free medical service to hospitals both in Ireland and Uk
